Primary Class Trips: Exploring the Magic Beyond the Classroom
Class trip season is here folks! — a time of excitement, exploration, and unforgettable experiences! As the school term unfolds, each class eagerly anticipates their turn to embark on a journey of discovery, immersing themselves in the wonders of the world beyond the classroom walls. This term, the spirit of adventure has once again swept through the school’s corridors, with every class, except for Year Six, venturing out to uncover the marvels of their surroundings.
In the pursuit of academic excellence, schools are constantly seeking innovative ways to engage students and enhance their learning journey. One such method, the enduring tradition of field trips, stands out among various approaches. At Ecole Ronsard, field trips are not merely an occasional activity but an integral part of our curriculum. They serve as pathways, providing students with priceless chances to connect abstract classroom theories with tangible real-world experiences. Through this connection, students develop a deep understanding and respect for the subjects they study.
Imagine sitting in a science class, absorbing information about ecosystems from textbooks and lectures. While the content may be intriguing, nothing quite compares to witnessing these ecosystems firsthand. That’s precisely where field trips come into play.
Come along with us as we guide you through the enthralling expedition to the remarkable trips that have unfolded this term.
Year 1 at Tema Harbour
The experience began with Year One embarking on an exciting tour to the Volta Aluminum Company, also known as Valco, located in the bustling city of Tema. Observing the remarkable transition of aluminum into common utensils was only the beginning.
As they went deeper, our explorers stopped at Tema harbor, where the energy of trade pulses nonstop. They were captivated by the symphony of machinery, as well as the vivid activity of maritime commerce and docking processes, as they witnessed the dynamic world of industry unfold before their eyes. The goal of this field trip was to help them understand how materials transition from one state to another.
Year 2 at Prak Industry
Meanwhile, Year Two delved deeper into the subject of paper making with a visit to Prak Industry in Kasoa. Amidst the buzzing equipment and perfumed pulp, our students marveled at the craftsmanship of papermaking and gained unique insights into the production of tissue and toilet paper.
This field trip will address objectives from their science lessons on ‘Getting Materials Right’ and help students understand how different materials are used in the manufacturing of high-quality products on the market.
Year 3 at Trashy bags
Year Three embarked on a transforming visit to Dzorwulu’s Trashy Bags to discover the secrets of sustainability. They saw the incredible metamorphosis of abandoned sachet water pouches into fashionable, eco-friendly bags!
Year 3 at Catechist Georgina Korankyewaa Memorial Fashion School
They then ventured into the world of fashion, learning about design and craftsmanship at the Catechist Georgina Korankyewaa Memorial Fashion School in Ashongmang. It was an unprecedented union of creativity and environmental conscience! This field excursion covered the recycling and measurement objectives from their Science and Mathematics classes.
Year 4 at All Nice Kente Shop
Year Four went on a cultural journey to the well-known All Nice Kente Shop in Ashaiman. Students were amazed by the brilliant colors of kente cloth that came to life right in front of their eyes! Immersed in the rhythmic clatter of looms and the precise motions of trained artisans, students developed a deep appreciation for the rich heritage and painstaking craftsmanship that go into this distinctive Ghanaian cloth.
This tour covered objectives from their ancient civilization’s history lesson, which is centered on culture.
Year 5 at Bunsu Eco Park
Lasty, Year Five experienced the serene embrace of nature with a visit to Bunsu Eco Park, a lovely oasis situated among Ghana’s luscious woodlands. Students had an exciting day, soaring over the treetops on zip lines and feeling the amazing surge of adrenaline while traversing the canopy walkway.
The journey culminated with an educational lesson on flowering plants and an interactive visit to a cocoa farm. A nice surprise awaited them as they satisfied their taste buds with the delectable flavor of cocoa, creating a lasting impression on their senses.
The only exception to this term’s trips was Year 6. This is because they are preparing for the Cambridge Checkpoint Exams. As previously mentioned, these trips afford them invaluable practical experiences that fortify their classroom learning.
Yet, beyond the realm of academia lies a deeper, more profound essence to these excursions – one that transcends the mere acquisition of knowledge.
It is in the bonds forged and the memories created amongst students that the true essence of these trips is found. Whether trekking through nature trails, beholding the beauty of artworks in galleries, or harmonizing in jovial sing-alongs aboard the bus, the spirit of friendships and belonging permeates every moment.
In essence, field trips are not mere excursions; they are transformative experiences that leave an indelible mark on our students’ educational journeys.
